SOURCE-VERIFIED STARTING POINTS

Presets are added only when their source can be checked. Always compare a preset with the instructions for your specific application.

Each entry is tied to a named source and workflow. We do not infer general rules for an entire agency, court system, or application category.

  • Passport photo

    U.S. Online Passport Renewal Photo

    Verified 2026-11-02

Checks the published file-size range and the JPG/PNG formats supported by this tool. The passport application has additional photo-content rules that are not assessed here.

    • Supported photo file: JPG, JPEG, or PNG; minimum file size 54 KB; maximum file size 10 MB
    Source, notes, and caveats

Source: U.S. Department of State, Uploading a Digital Photo

Matches the requirements listed by the referenced source as of 2026-11-02.

    Notes
    • The Department of State lists JPG, JPEG, PNG, HEIC, and HEIF files, with a size between 54 KB and 10 MB. This preset checks only the formats currently supported by this app: JPG/JPEG and PNG.
    • The source does not specify pixel dimensions or a square aspect ratio for this online renewal upload, so this preset does not impose either constraint.
    • The lower bound is interpreted conservatively as 54 × 1024 bytes, and the upper bound as 10,000,000 bytes, since the source does not specify unit conversion.
    Caveats
    • HEIC and HEIF are accepted by the government source but are not currently inspected by this tool. Use an accepted format supported by the tool or follow the official application flow for HEIC/HEIF.
    • This tool checks file format and size only. It does not assess color, date taken, framing, background, retouching, identity, or final photo acceptance.
    • The Department of State may review the photo after submission. This preset is not an acceptance guarantee.
  • Job application

USAJOBS Federal Resume · PDF size check

    Verified 2026-11-02

Checks a PDF resume against the published USAJOBS size limit. USAJOBS recommends PDF to preserve formatting but also accepts other formats.

    • PDF resume file: PDF; maximum 5 MB
    Source, notes, and caveats

Source: USAJOBS Help Center, What should I include in my resume?

Matches the requirements listed by the referenced source as of 2026-11-02.

    Notes
    • USAJOBS states resumes must be 5 MB or less and recommends PDF to maintain formatting. It also accepts several other formats, so this preset checks only the PDF subset.
    • The source does not specify byte conversion for MB; this preset uses a conservative 5,000,000-byte maximum.
    Caveats
    • This tool checks the PDF file type and size only. It does not inspect resume content, preserve or assess searchable text, verify formatting, or determine eligibility for a job announcement.
    • USAJOBS requirements and employer-specific application instructions may differ. Compare this preset with the specific job announcement.
    • Passing these checks does not guarantee that an application will be accepted.

            Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No application server receives the selected file contents. File checks and processing run in your browser.

What file types can I check?

The app supports JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, and PDF inspection. Supported transformations depend on the file type and the requirements you enter. Files are identified from their contents rather than only their extension.

Does a READY result guarantee the upload site will accept my file?

No. READY means the supported technical requirements you entered passed validation. A destination may apply additional rules, review the file content, or change its requirements. Always check the destination’s current instructions.

Will the tool change my original file?

No. Fixes create a separate output. The app inspects and validates that output again before offering it for download. Some transformations, including image re-encoding or PDF rewriting, can affect metadata, signatures, or unsupported features, so review warnings and keep your original.

Can the tool always make a PDF smaller?

No. The available PDF option is a browser-local structural rewrite that may reduce some files, but it does not rasterize pages or guarantee a smaller result. The rewritten PDF is only offered after independent inspection and validation.
